The Ukrainian army announced today that it is reinforcing its troops in the eastern town of Avdeevka, BTA reported, based on information from France Press. The agency recalls that fierce fighting is taking place there with Russian forces that have advanced in recent days.
“In accordance with the decision taken, the planned reinforcement of the units is underway and the troops are maneuvering to the threatened positions,” the Ukrainian army said in a post on social networks.
“Ukrainian defenders continue to repel the enemy who is trying to surround Avdeyevka /…/. Ukrainian soldiers are holding the positions,” the Ukrainian army added.
The “Deep State” channel in Telegram, close to the Ukrainian army, showed today on a map the closure of a small “pocket” in the southern part of Avdeevka, which yesterday was shown as controlled by the Ukrainian army.
Earlier this morning, Ukrainian General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, who commands troops in the area, reported “fierce fighting” in Avdeevka. “Our troops are using all available forces and means to contain the enemy,” he said.
The general also said that Ukrainian forces were in the process of building new defensive positions around Avdeyevka, signaling a possible withdrawal in the face of waves of Russian attacks that have been intensifying since October last year.
“New positions have been established and strong fortifications continue to be built, taking into account all possible scenarios,” General Tarnavski said.
