Drone attacks continue in the war between Ukraine and Russia. Today, September 29, 2023, Russian air defense systems destroyed 11 Kiev drones, one of them over the Kaluga region and the other 10 over the Kursk region. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, quoted by the Tass agency.
“On the night of September 29, the Kiev regime’s attempt to carry out a terrorist attack with aerial drones against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation was stopped. The air defense systems on duty destroyed 11 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, of which one on the territory of the Kaluga region and 10 on the Kursk region”, it is specified in a note.
Moscow celebrates annexation of territories
Russia is celebrating the annexations of territories from four southern and eastern oblasts of Ukraine (Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk) with a concert to be held in Red Square in Moscow on the eve of the first anniversary.
Although Russian forces do not completely control any of the four provinces and, indeed, have had to cede parts of the territories due to the Ukrainian counteroffensive, on September 30 a year ago President Vladimir Putin declared them new Russian territories following unrecognized referendums by the international community and entrenched this decision in the Russian Constitution.
The concert with stars such as Dima Bilan and Sergei Lazarev will begin at 5.30 pm local time (4.30 pm in Italy) and will have the slogan “One land, one family, one Russia”. Polina Gagarina, Nikolay Baskov, Grigory Leps and the ultranationalist singer Shaman will also perform. Putin has decreed that tomorrow will be an official public holiday proclaiming the ‘Day of Unification’ with Russia.
Putin instructs former commander Wagner to train new volunteers
The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has instructed the former ‘chief of staff’ of the Wagner group, retired colonel Andrei Troshev, to begin training volunteer units to be used for the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the Interfax agency, underlining that the deputy defense minister, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, also took part in the meeting between Putin and Yevgeny Prigozhin’s former lieutenant, who died in the crash of a plane last month.
The president asked Troshev to set up “volunteer units capable of carrying out various combat missions, mainly in the zone of special military operations,” Putin said, referring to Ukraine. “You yourself have been fighting in such a unit for more than a year. You know what it is, you know the problems that need to be solved in advance so that the fighting takes place in the best and most successful way,” Putin added .
