Russia launches several missiles against the provinces that border Poland

The launch of missiles from various points in Russian territory and the occupied Crimean peninsula last night forced anti-aircraft alerts to be activated throughout Ukraine. As a result of the offensive ordered by Moscow during the early hours of this Tuesday, at least three people lost their lives in the city of Lutsk, in the western province of Volyn, due to the impact of a projectile in an industrial zone. This town is located about 100 kilometers from the border with Poland, a territory of the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance. The Russian offensive also reached the city of Lviv, some 70 kilometers from the Polish border and one of the fundamental refuges for the thousands of Ukrainians who fled after the start of the invasion, on February 24, 2022.

“The air defense forces acted during the night alert,” Lutsk Mayor Igor Polishchuk said on his Telegram channel. “But, unfortunately, we were hit by one of the attacks at one of the industrial enterprises.” The province of Volin, which borders on the north with Belarus, a country allied to Moscow, is part of that western territory far from the battlefront and generally safe from Russian bombing. In March 2022, an attack on a military base in Lutsk caused the death of four soldiers.
According to information from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the anti-aircraft defense systems have been able to repel 16 of the thirty missiles launched by Russia from various points on its territory and from Yalta, in the south of the Crimean peninsula. Among the projectiles used by Moscow are the KH101 the Kalibr. These two models, according to forensic analysis carried out in kyiv, contain components made in the West.

The anti-aircraft defense systems were unable to stop the trajectory of several of the missiles that were targeting the Lviv province. At least one of them fell in the city of the same name, on Riashivska street. As reported from the place of impact by the mayor of the town, Andri Sadovi, the attack caused injuries to several residents, although none seriously. “Many missiles were shot down, but others fell on Lviv,” Sadovi said in a recording.

A hundred homes have damage and half a thousand crystals were blown up. The center of Lviv and the areas surrounding it are World Heritage, protected by Unesco. This did not prevent another Russian missile on July 6 from taking the lives of 10 people in a residential area of this city.

The governor of the Lviv province, Maksim Kozitski, reported that the offensive also hit the municipalities of Sukhovola and Stavchani.

The Russian army maintains a daily hammering against civilian populations in parallel to its offensive on the eastern flank of Kharkov. Along with the shower of rockets that flew to the west, Moscow has hit the east, Dnipro, Zaporizhia and Donetsk in recent hours.

At least two people were killed last night by an attack that hit a food warehouse in the city of Kramatorsk (Donetsk). Another person was injured when a missile hit a completely destroyed sports complex in Dnipro.
