The IAEA released the letter at Ukraine’s request but has yet to comment on the matter.

The 1st, 3rd and 4th reactors of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) were stopped first thing in the morning during the Russian airstrikes on Monday.

As a result of the shutdown of these reactors, the capacity of the Southern Ukrainian NPP was increased. Reactor 3 of this NPP was stopped on Monday afternoon due to fluctuations in judgment in the power grid.

“The Russian Federation continues to deliberately attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with the intention of disrupting the country’s nuclear power plants, which provide the majority of Ukraine’s electricity,” the letter said.

Many coal and gas power plants and hydroelectric plants have already been destroyed or damaged by Russian airstrikes.

There have been no attacks on nuclear power plants controlled by Ukraine, but they are affecting fluctuations in the power grid.

Ukraine’s largest nuclear power plant – Zaporizhia NPP – has been occupied by Russian troops and its operations have been suspended.

The IAEA has called on both sides not to jeopardize the safety of nuclear facilities.
