Russians begin to relinquish control of Ukraine? Energatum, the Ukrainian Atomic Energy Agency announced today (Thursday) that Russia has agreed to return to Ukraine responsibility for the Chernobyl region. This is after Russia occupied the compound of the nuclear facility already in the first days of the invasion of the country.

A statement from the agency said that a “small number” of Russian troops remained in the area. The return of control of Chernobyl to Ukraine was backed by a document signed by a senior staff member at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and a Russian military official in charge of the nuclear power plant sector.

In Ukraine, there have been constant warnings that the power outage at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant could cause another disaster at the site, decades after the great disaster that occurred at the station. The power plant said: “Radioactive materials may be released from the nuclear power plant because it cannot cool fuel after disconnecting its power supply. Work is underway to restore electricity to the plant.”

Russia had earlier announced that it would extend its sanctions against a number of EU parliamentarians, following on from sanctions imposed on President Biden, Secretary of State Linken and senior officials in Washington. Meaning: Prohibition of entry into Russia and foreclosure of bank accounts in Russia, which most of them, like everyone else, do not have at all.

Later in the day, US President Biden is expected to announce that the United States will release one million barrels of oil daily for six months to cover the shortage of Russian oil.
