India has once again ignored a resolution against Russia in the UN Security Council. However, what India is going to do and what the nations of the world are going to talk about in the debate to be held at the United Nations General Assembly tonight according to Indian time is subject to anticipation.
The Security Council requested that in addition to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s ongoing inspections in Ukraine, that it monitor Russia’s compliance with “the steps required by the IAEA Board”.
Eleven countries voted in favor in the referendum. Russia voted against. India, China and the United Arab Emirates abstained.
However, the resolution was passed with the support of 11 countries, as it could not be vetoed under UN rules.
The United Nations Security Council has a total of 15 member states. Of these, the United States, Britain, Russia, China and France have been granted veto power. These are all permanent member states.
Even if one of these countries thinks, the resolutions can be overturned. Therefore the support of these 5 countries is essential for a resolution to be passed in the United Nations Security Council. But no country has been given a veto power because the resolution is pragmatic.
Following this, the UN General Assembly is scheduled to meet tonight. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has announced that representatives from 193 countries will take part.
Speaking during the referendum, India’s Ambassador to the UN D.S. Thirumurthy noted that the escalation of violence in Ukraine since last Friday was regrettable and that the Security Council had called for talks.
He later said in a statement that there was no solution to the problem other than negotiations, and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stressed this to Ukrainian and Russian leaders.
What happened at the Security Council last time?
The resolution against Russia was also passed by the UN last Friday. Security was brought into them. Russia has used its veto power to overturn a United Nations Security Council resolution calling on Russian troops to withdraw from Ukraine and condemn Russia.
The resolution against Russia was supported by 11 countries, including the United States and Britain. Russia rejected. The rest of India, China and the United Arab Emirates abstained. The resolution ended in defeat as Russia opposed the resolution with veto power. So the United States then promised to take the issue to the General Assembly, where the veto power was invalid.
At the time, India’s ambassador to the United Nations, D.S. Thirumurthy released an explanatory statement on behalf of India.

The statement added that India was “deeply concerned” about the situation in Ukraine and urged India to make every effort to end the fighting.
The report stressed that all member states should keep in mind that negotiations are the only solution.
The report said it regretted the abandonment of ways to find a solution through government negotiations and to return to that path.
Ukraine has implicitly expressed its dissatisfaction with India’s position in the Security Council. Ukraine’s envoy Sergei Kislytskaya said some countries were enduring the war.
The United States also opposed India’s position. Linda, the US envoy, said that abstaining or abstaining from voting was a pro-Russian position. He also accused Russia of waging an arbitrary war.

India’s position on the Russian invasion

What should India do?
