On condition of return, Ukraine will supply gas to Moldova, which faced a shortage of fuel amid protracted negotiations on the extension of a gas contract with Gazprom. This was stated by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov.
“We believe that we can afford to do this, and we say that this gas will not be supplied for money, it will be transferred for a certain period so that Moldova will then return this gas to us,” Danilov said at a briefing following the meeting. council (quoted by RIA Novosti).
According to the secretary, the Prime Minister of Moldova Natalya Gavrilitsa made such a request to the Ukrainian government. “We made a decision to instruct the Cabinet of Ministers to consider this issue. We understand that we can provide such assistance to the Republic of Moldova in the near future, ”he added.
Earlier today, the Moldovan parliament voted to impose a state of emergency in the country from October 22 to November 20 due to a shortage of natural gas. For this period, an accelerated regime for the purchase of natural gas will be adopted in Moldova, and prompt actions will be taken to provide natural gas, including through derogation from regulatory provisions.
According to Gavrilitsa, this month Moldova is importing from Russia a third less than the required volume of raw materials. This is due to the fact that Chisinau has not yet come to an agreement with Gazprom on the next extension of the gas supply contract. The previous contract expired on September 30 and was extended until the end of October, according to which the previous price of $ 550 per thousand cubic meters rose to $ 790 (against about $ 150 a year earlier).
