Ukraine – “Working towards victory”: Zelensky’s optimistic message

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced this morning (Friday) that he has returned to his seat in Kiev, after returning from a diplomatic visit to Washington – the first time he has left Ukraine’s borders since the start of the war with Russia. “I’m in the office and we’re working towards victory,” Zelensky said in a video posted on his Telegram page.

As I recall, Zelensky spoke yesterday in the American Congress. “Against all the odds and horror scenarios, Ukraine did not fall. It is alive and kicking,” Zelensky said at the beginning of his remarks and received applause from members of the House of Representatives.

He later referred to his country’s need to arm the army in the face of continued Russian attacks. “We have artillery, yes, thank you. But is it enough? Honestly, not really.” He added that “your money is not charity, it is an investment in global security and democracy, which we manage in the most responsible way.”
