Ukraine, Zelensky removes security chief and attorney general

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired two key figures in his security services today. With a decree he dismissed the head of the secret services of the SBU, Ivan Bakanov. According to the decrees published by the Kiev presidency, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova was also dismissed. Oleksy Simonenko will take her place. The reasons were not given in the documents. A successor was not initially appointed for the post of head of the secret services. Bakanov (47) is a close companion of Zelenskii since his days as a TV comedian, he has been the head of the secret services since 2019.
