Nine Russian fighter jets were destroyed in an explosion at the Saki Air Base in Crimea, which is part of Russia, on Tuesday, the Ukrainian Air Force said. The disclosure was made without publicly admitting that they had carried out the attack. In his daily TV address hours after Tuesday’s blast, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia would end the war it had started in Crimea by retaking Crimea. In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea through a referendum. Zelenskiy’s adviser, Oleksii Arestovich, said that guerrilla fighters in Crimea themselves may be behind the attack.

Russia has repeatedly warned that there will be severe repercussions if it attacks Crimea. One person was killed in the attack on the air base. 13 people were injured. At least 14 people were reportedly killed in a Russian attack on Dnipropetrovsk in central Ukraine on Tuesday night. The city’s mayor said 21 people were killed.
