Orthodox Christians living in Russia and Ukraine celebrate Christmas today (Saturday). In this regard, a request was made to Russian President Putin to declare a ceasefire in Ukraine.
In response, Putin ordered Russian forces to cease attacks for 36 hours, beginning at noon on Friday and ending at midnight on Saturday. The order did not make clear whether the ceasefire would apply to self-defense by Russian forces or whether Russia would retaliate if Ukraine continues to fight.
In this situation, the Russian Defense Ministry has accused the Ukrainian Armed Forces of bombarding Russian forces and logistics in Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry also said that the counterattack by the Ukrainian forces, which attacked, was suppressed.
