Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said the country intends to “fight for every inch of land” if diplomacy to resolve the crisis does not work.

“Plan A” is to use every tool of diplomacy to contain Russia and prevent further escalation. “Plan B” is to fight for every inch of the earth,” Kuleba said at a briefing following talks with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken (quoted by RIA Novosti).

On the evening of February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR. The President instructed the Foreign Ministry to establish diplomatic relations with the republics and hold talks to prepare a friendship treaty. The United States and the European Union condemned this decision, announcing the preparation of sanctions against Russia.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that in view of recent events in the Donbass, the time has come to grant Kiev membership in the European Union. “I called on the EU to immediately put aside all hesitation, all restraint, skepticism that exists in some European capitals and give Ukraine the promise of future EU membership. That time has come. Against the backdrop of what is happening, it is absolutely obvious that the best strategic decision that Europe can make now is to literally take Ukraine for itself, ”Kuleba said.

On February 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would consider a proposal from the country’s foreign ministry to sever diplomatic relations with Russia. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov called a possible rupture of relations “an extremely undesirable scenario.”
