“On the night of August 14, units of the Air Force and Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, together with the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, attacked four airfields in the Voronezh, Kursk and Nizhny Novgorod regions of Russia. The military airfields “Halina”, “Savasleika” were struck. “, “Borisoglebsk” and “Baltimore”, said the General Staff statement released on Wednesday evening.
Halyna airfield is located in Kursk region, Savasleyka airfield in Nizhny Novgorod region, Borosoglebsk airfield in Voronezh region, and “Baltimore” airfield in Voronezh.
The General Staff stated that Su-34 fighter-bombers, Su-35 fighters and other military aircraft are based at these airfields.
“The main targets were fuel and aircraft armament depots. The results of the attack are being clarified,” the General Staff added.
It has already been reported that a source in the Security Service of Ukraine previously confirmed to journalists that Ukrainian long-range drones struck these airfields on Wednesday night.
“Long-range drones of the Security Service and Defense Forces of Ukraine (Air Force, Special Operations Forces, Unmanned Systems Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense and other arms of the armed forces) carried out the biggest attack on Russian military airfields since the beginning of the war. It was a fun night at Voronezh, Kursk, Savasleika and Borisoglebsk airfields,” said the source.
The source confirmed that this was a specially planned operation so that the enemy could not use these airfields to bomb the front line and Ukrainian cities.
“Russian war correspondents are already whining on social networks that the strike was effective and that the anti-aircraft defense was unable to protect these objects. Local social media channels report ten explosions just near Savasleika, from where they regularly take off [iznīcinātāji] “MiG”, terrorizing all of Ukraine (..). We are waiting for satellite images of destroyed Russian planes and warehouses,” the source said, adding that the Security Service of Ukraine continues to methodically weaken Russian military aviation.
“For now, it is the planes that provide the enemy with air superiority, but we will continue to clip the wings of these birds,” the source said.
