Russia continues to attack Ukraine for a third day. There are a lot of casualties in this. As Russia continues its offensive to capture the Ukrainian capital Kiev, the Ukrainian people are fleeing their countries. Many have taken refuge in subways, including metro stations. About one lakh people have taken refuge in neighboring Poland alone. Tens of thousands of people are waiting on the borders of countries including Romania and Hungary despite the bitter cold.
Meanwhile, the federal government is working to repatriate Indians from Ukraine to neighboring Ukraine by road and from there by air. In particular, the work of rescuing Indian students through embassies in Romania and Hungary continues unabated.
Leaders of various countries, including the United States, Germany and France, have called for an end to the offensive in Ukraine and for a negotiated settlement. Similarly, countries including the United States have imposed sanctions on Russia.
However, as the war intensified day by day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was telephoned by Ukrainian President Zhelensky. On his official Twitter page, the Ukrainian president said, “I have spoken out about Russia’s invasion and occupation. They are insidiously firing on residential buildings. I urge the UN Security Council to support Ukraine.
