Ulf Kristersson, a “right-wing” Swede at the head of the European Union

PORTRAIT – Sweden holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union for six months. A Brussels formality with no real impact and which would have gone unnoticed if the head of the Swedish government had not been appointed thanks to the votes of the radical right.

The man by whom the scandal occurs would have done well without all these media solicitudes. At the age of 59, this professional politician, as charismatic as an iceberg and with a very Nordic prudence, nevertheless had the ideal profile to seduce the Brussels technocracy: Ulf Kristersson has been a liberal-conservative since the age when he gave up his pacifier, he campaigns for the planet and against global warming, he adopted three little girls in China (before the Covid, of course), he loves dogs (his is called Winston, like the British statesman who challenged Adolf Hitler in 1940), but not the Russians who are waging war on the Ukrainians, even though their army defeated the German Chancellor in 1945.

In short, a good guy who wants “a greener, safer and freer Europe”. Failing to be original, one can hardly do more consensual. The problem with “Uffe”, as his friends nickname him, is that he would not be in control of the kingdom if he had not sealed a pact…
