Former Mexico City Attorney General’s Office Manager Appointed to Key Role in Federal Prosecutor’s Office
A former office manager for the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City, Ulises Lara López, has been appointed Head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Investigation of Relevant Matters within the Attorney General’s Office (FGR). The appointment, confirmed by Lara López via his social media account on Friday, comes after anticipation of the move reported as early as December 2025.
“I share with you that yesterday, Ernestina Godoy has seen fit to appoint me Head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Investigation of Relevant Matters,” Lara López stated on X. “I appreciate the trust placed in me, rest assured that as always, we will be working for justice.”
The appointment marks a return to a prominent role for Lara López, who previously served as office manager in the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office. Prior to that, he was a delegate of the FGR in the state of Morelos. The Day initially reported on December 5th of last year that Lara López would be joining the team led by Ernestina Godoy.
Lara López brings a substantial academic background to the position. He holds a degree in sociology, along with two master’s degrees and several diplomas. He has been a professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico since 1995, teaching in the Political Science and Public Administration programs at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences. His academic experience also includes roles as a Postgraduate professor at the National School of Social Work from 2006 to 2009, and an undergraduate subject professor at the same institution from 2006 to 2013.
His previous experience within the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office also encompassed roles as coordinator of advisors and spokesperson, demonstrating a breadth of experience in legal administration and public communication. This appointment signals a continued restructuring within the Mexican legal system and a reliance on experienced personnel for key prosecutorial roles.
