Uljin County, Clean Beaches All Closed

by times news cr

Uljin County’s clean beaches have closed all at once. Uljin County (Governor Son Byeong-bok) closed all six beaches (Nagok, Hujeong, Bongpyeong, Mangyangjeong, Gusan, and Hupo) in the county after 38 days of operation. This year, due to the early rainy season and the Nomura jellyfish warning, the number of visitors decreased by 13.9% compared to last year, approximately 69,000. However, thanks to the efforts of workers, such as purchasing additional first aid supplies and strengthening jellyfish extermination activities, they were able to close safely without any casualties.

However, the number of visitors to all beaches in Gyeongbuk decreased by about 24.4% compared to last year, but Uljin-gun was able to mitigate the decrease in visitors by leading the differentiated services of Uljin-gun, such as the Gusan Pet Beach, which was the first to be piloted this year, and the beach revitalization project held in Mangyangjeong, Gusan, and Hupo. Next year, the plan is to attract visitors by reinforcing facilities and holding more unique events.

During the 2024 beach opening period, in addition to water safety buoys, we have made efforts for safety management such as installing harmful organism removal nets and broadcasting safety accident prevention announcements. In addition, we have achieved ‘zero safety accidents’ during the opening period through thorough service of water safety personnel and cooperation with related organizations such as Uljin Police Station, Uljin Marine Police Station, and Uljin Fire Station. Even after the closing on the 18th, we will do our utmost to prevent safety accidents by deploying two water safety personnel to each beach and posting caution banners for water play due to the closure until the end of the peak season.

Uljin County will strive to create a clean beach 365 days a year by conducting facility inspections and beach environment management as soon as possible after the beach closes, so that tourists can enjoy a clean and safe beach. Based on the results of the beach operation, the county will hold its own evaluation meetings to supplement any shortcomings in facility maintenance, expansion, and operation.

Uljin County Governor Son Byeong-bok said, “We plan to do our best to open the beach in 2025 with the goal of creating a safe, comfortable, and unique beach. I hope that many tourists will come back again to enjoy the leisure and fun that the Uljin Sea offers.”
