The 8th elected Uljin County has taken its first step toward becoming a city with a population of 100,000. The starting point is the nuclear hydrogen national industrial complex that can produce electricity using Uljin’s nuclear power.
Since taking office, Governor Son Byeong-bok has been actively pursuing agreements with hydrogen-related companies, and following the selection of a candidate site for the nuclear hydrogen national industrial complex in March of last year and the confirmation of exemption from preliminary feasibility study on June 28, the project has been able to gain speed.
In particular, this exemption from preliminary feasibility study is the first of its kind in a local area among the 15 national industrial complex candidate sites promoted by the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, and is the result of the government acknowledging the demand for housing and economic ripple effects of the Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex.
The nuclear hydrogen national industrial complex will bring remarkable growth to the local economy and population inflow, with an economic effect of 17 trillion won, including a production-induced effect of 9 trillion won, and an employment-induced effect of over 38,000 people.
Uljin County is making every effort to expedite the preliminary procedures with the goal of completion in 2029.
– Resumption of construction of Shinhanul Units 3 and 4 to vitalize local economy through mutual growth
As a result of the quick actions taken by the 8th elected Uljin County, including the promotion of the nuclear hydrogen national industrial complex and intensive consultations with local National Assembly members and relevant ministries to resume construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4, construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 has resumed.
The construction of Shinhanul Units 3 and 4 will involve building two 1.4 million kW nuclear power plants in Gyeongbuk by 2033, and the site preparation work is underway following approval of the implementation plan last year.
Uljin County has made it possible for the construction of Shinhanul Units 3 and 4 to provide real help to the local economy by signing a win-win agreement with the project operator and the main facility construction company, including: △ participation of local companies in the construction, △ provision of employment opportunities for local residents, and △ introduction of local materials and equipment to the construction site.
In addition, we plan to establish a mutual growth consultative body to check the implementation status of the agreement contents on a quarterly basis.
We are working to ensure that the influx of construction workers from outside helps revitalize the local economy, such as by securing housing space for construction workers.

Changes continued in the agricultural and fisheries industries, which form the basis of the local economy. In the case of agriculture, in order to overcome the aging population and poor environment, the focus was on mechanization and scale-up, and projects such as the field special zone project, the construction of large-scale cold storage facilities, and the creation of a rental smart farm shiitake mushroom complex were promoted to create a profitable agricultural environment.
In addition, in the case of the fisheries industry, we are promoting a pilot project with the goal of securing a stable supply chain for fresh fishery products and establishing a same-day delivery system in the metropolitan area and inland areas by focusing on changes in the distribution system.

The 8th elected government improved the consignment operation method so that military-owned facilities could be operated stably and contribute to the local economy by incorporating a management mindset into the conventional military administration.

In addition, in order to build infrastructure for barefoot walking, which is one of the recent trends, barefoot walking spots are being promoted at Wolsongjeong and Yeonhojeong, and Gusan Beach is being opened as a dog-friendly beach, creating a unique attraction in Uljin-gun that is different from other regions.

In addition, to ensure that seniors can have a proper meal at senior centers, we have expanded the Happy Senior Center side dish support project, which used to be provided five times a year, to provide side dishes to senior centers twice a month starting from the end of June.
