Ultra-Orthodox Arrested: Suspected of leaking sensitive information from a secret facility to a foreign agent

A number of ultra-Orthodox suspects, from the Jerusalem area, were arrested at the beginning of the week by the Israel Police, on suspicion of passing on information about a sensitive and secret security facility where one of them worked. Thus today (Wednesday) was allowed for publication. The two suspects are relatives.

According to the police’s suspicion, the two suspects gathered confidential information about a sensitive security facility where one of them worked, and they allegedly passed the information they had to a foreign agent.

The two are suspected of offenses of harming state security, possession of information, gathering information, making contact with an agent and passing information concerning state security to a foreign agent, conspiracy, threats and assault causing actual damage.

The police suspect that one of the detainees who works at a security facility gathered information about the facility seven years ago and another suspect helped him keep the material.

At the request of the journalist Haim Goldich of the Ynet website, the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court today allowed the publication of some of the details of the affair, which was investigated by the Shin Bet and the Israel Police.

According to the suspicion, the material was handed over to a young woman in order for her to keep it. She passed the material on to her friend.

A few weeks ago the suspect went to Sinai, with the sensitive material on the device in his hand. There, he allegedly met with a foreign agent, and gave him the information. When his parents were unable to locate him, they contacted the police, who discovered that he had crossed the border into Sinai.

The two suspects were arrested early last week, and their detention was extended from time to time. This week they were released to house arrest under restrictive conditions.
