Signed on the sidelines of the “Gitex Africa Digital Summit”, this memorandum of understanding aims to explore new investment partnership opportunities, with the aim of strengthening support for startups, indicates a press release from UM6P.

Under this agreement, the signatory parties undertake to collaborate to define the terms and conditions of this partnership, with a view to promoting sustainable growth and harmonious development of entrepreneurial ecosystems, explains the same source, noting that through this Agreement, the infrastructure of “Chari” and its subsidiaries will be hosted in the UM6P Data Center.

The contractual conditions governing this hosting will guarantee the security, availability and confidentiality of data, while respecting the applicable protection standards, we read in the press release.

And the same source added that this technological collaboration will allow “Chari” to strengthen its position as a major player in e-commerce in French-speaking Africa.

In addition, UM6P Ventures and Chari will collaborate on digital initiatives aimed at promoting digital and financial inclusion of small farmers, notes the same source.

Within this framework, the two parties will work together to develop innovative solutions to facilitate access to markets, improve management capacities and promote financial inclusion in this vital sector of the African economy.

The agreement also provides support for the skills development of Chari employees and its subsidiaries through continuing education programs. The objective is to support the professional development of these promising talents, in order to strengthen their expertise and enable them to seize the opportunities offered by the digital economy, explains UM6P.

This collaboration will also facilitate integration between the academic and professional worlds for UM6P students, through internship programs and recruitment.

UM6P Ventures is the investment arm of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, founded to enable the University to promote entrepreneurship and accelerate scientific innovation in Morocco and Africa.

It is an early stage investment firm that manages two funds: a Digital Transformation Startup fund and a Deeptech Ventures fund.

Chari is an e-commerce application that helps small traders in French-speaking Africa to obtain stocks for their stores and to be delivered for free, while benefiting from payment facilities. Its mission is to stimulate economic growth and promote financial inclusion, by connecting retail players and facilitating access to products for small businesses.

Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this large-scale event supported by the Digital Development Agency (ADD) under the supervision of the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, brought together, for three days, leaders from the public and private sectors, political decision-makers, investors and academics for intensive exchanges between the public and private sectors of the future largest digital economy in the world.

The largest entrepreneurship event in Africa, GITEX Africa is an initiative of GITEX GLOBAL in Dubai, the world’s largest technology and start-up exhibition, ranked as the best in the world by global technology leaders, and which is making a stopover in this first edition in Morocco, thus retracing its commitment to accelerate the development of digital infrastructures in Africa.
