Umaria: A sensational incident took place in Ghoghari village of Chandia police station of the district. A seven month pregnant newly married woman was murdered in a gruesome manner for the sake of dowry. After the murder, her in-laws burnt her body in the courtyard of the house. This gruesome incident was carried out by the deceased woman’s husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law.
The badly burnt body of the newly married woman was found in the courtyard of the house. The police have registered a case of dowry harassment and murder against five people including the husband. A team of doctors examined the body in the district hospital. SP Nivedita Naidu inspected the crime scene and gave instructions to the SDOP regarding the investigation. The deceased woman has been identified as Shalini Gautam.
I was shocked to hear about the death of my beloved sister
Shalini Gautam’s uncle Rambhajan Tiwari, resident of Ubra village, district Katni, gave information about the incident. He told that Shalini was the only sister of two brothers. As soon as the family got information about this incident in the afternoon, they were left speechless. The victim’s family themselves informed the police about this incident before reaching the in-laws’ house. The victim’s family had already suspected the in-laws.
The whole body was burnt in the fire
When Shalini’s family reached Ghoghari village and saw her, her hands and legs were stiff. Her whole body was badly burnt in the fire. A gallon was kept near the house. On seeing the dead body, the family members of the deceased were filled with grief. There was a lot of screaming and crying on the spot.
In-laws used to harass her for dowry
The victim’s uncle told that Shalini was married to Shrikant, son of Ram Kishore Gautam, a resident of Ghoghari village, on 19 November 2021. Shalini did not have a father. We all had got married. A few days after the marriage, they started demanding more money. We kept giving them money with all our efforts.
Had been beaten up before
A few months ago, son-in-law Shrikant beat up Shalini and fled after making her unconscious in the Narmada Express. When Indore GRP found Shalini unconscious, they informed the family and we brought her home. Since then she has been staying at her parental home but then her in-laws made a compromise and brought her home.
Bulldozers run on houses with strict punishment
After taking her from her parental home, the son-in-law demanded a Bullet. We had given Rs. 2 lakh for it in the month of May. Even after that, he did not stop torturing our niece. The victim’s uncle said that Shalini’s in-laws killed her and burnt her. The accused in the crime are her father-in-law Ram Kishore Gautam, mother-in-law Nirmala, husband Shrikant, sister-in-law Rajni, and brother-in-law Khemraj. We demand from the government that we should get justice and the accused should be given strict punishment and their house should be demolished.

Regarding the case, Umaria SP Nivedita Naidu said that it is a case of dowry murder. The burnt body of Shalini Gautam, who was 6 to 7 months pregnant, was recovered from the house. In this regard, the police have registered a case of dowry murder. The police is investigating the case thoroughly. There are 5 accused in this, which includes the deceased’s mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and husband. A case under Section 103 (1), 80, 85 BNS has been registered in Chandia police station and the accused are being searched.
