UMC Utrecht will extensively test new treatment after stroke

Hundreds of patients affected by a stroke can participate in a large study into a new method to improve their motor skills recovery. The technique is called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and boils down to stimulating brain areas by means of a “staff-shaped device with a magnetic coil in it,” explains UMC Utrecht. A relatively small-scale study of the academic hospital, with sixty patients, has already yielded promising results.
