Umran Malik bowled just one over in Ranchi and conceded 16 runs

Lucknow: After losing the first Twenty20 in Ranchi against New Zealand, the second match in Lucknow is a life and death battle for Team India. Former player Wasim Jaffer has suggested a major change in India’s playing XI for the Lucknow clash. Jaffer’s suggestion is not to play fast bowler Umran Malik in the second T20I.
Umran Malik bowled just one over in Ranchi and conceded 16 runs. Umran Malik will struggle in T20 if pace variations are not made. It was expected that cutters would throw the best option in Ranchi, but that didn’t happen. On such pitches, the ball is bowled at 145 km/h and reaches the bat directly. Jitesh Sharma or Prithvi Shaw should replace Umran in the playing eleven. Jitesh should be considered again as runs can be found in the lower order. “I feel like an extra batter will solve the problem,” Wasim Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo.
Team India lost by 21 runs in Ranchi Twenty20. Chasing a target of 177 runs in the match, Team India managed to score 155 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan was out for four, Shubman Gill for seven and Rahul Tripathi for zero while Suryakumar Yadav struggled with 47 runs. Captain Hardik Pandya could only score 21 runs. Washington Sundar’s struggle in the last overs reduced the weight of the loss. Washington Sundar scored 50 off 28 balls. With the win in Ranchi, the Kiwis took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Batting first, New Zealand reached the best score on the strength of half-centuries from Devon Conway and Darryl Mitchell. Conway scored 52 off 35 balls and Mitchell 59 off 30 balls. Finn Allen returned at 35. Glenn Phillips was the only other to reach double figures with 17 runs. Indian pacers have put up a miserable performance. Meanwhile, the spinners excelled. Washington Sundar, who returned two for 22, and Kuldeep Yadav, who dismissed one for 20, shone. Daryl Mitchell was selected as the man of the match with his fast batting.
