Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Alizabri has accused the UN Human Rights Council of unnecessarily interfering in the internal affairs of the country.

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Alizabri has told the media that the United Nations Human Rights Council is unnecessarily interfering in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs. He mentioned that if anyone is responsible for economic crimes in Sri Lanka, action will be taken against them according to the law of the country.

He said that Sri Lanka does not accept the term ‘economic crimes’ mentioned in the report of the United Nations Human Rights Commissioners, and that what Sri Lanka needs now is economic reforms, and that the United Nations Rights Council does not have the expertise to educate Sri Lanka about economic reforms. However, he also said that the experts in economic reforms are the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Pointing out that Sri Lanka is engaged in discussions for economic reforms with the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and debt restructuring experts, he ‘slammed the United Nations Human Rights Council for forcefully keeping Sri Lanka on its agenda without giving it room to move forward’. He also accused the UN Human Rights Council of making unnecessary interventions in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs.
