UN Human Rights Presidency: US Congratulates Morocco
Washington – The United States congratulated Morocco on its election Wednesday in Geneva to the presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC), while committing to strengthening bilateral cooperation to promote human rights around the world.
“I extend my sincere congratulations to Morocco and to Ambassador Omar Zniber, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN in Geneva, after his election as President of the UN Human Rights Council in 2024,” said Ambassador Michèle Taylor, Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN in Geneva, on the X network (formerly Twitter).
In this tweet, relayed by the office of the spokesperson of the State Department in Washington, the American representative expressed the commitment of the United States to continue working with Morocco to promote human rights throughout the world.
“We are delighted to join together in our mutual effort to strengthen human rights around the world. United, we can chart a path toward universal respect and equality,” the diplomat added in the message accompanied by the flags of the two countries as a sign of the centuries-old friendship between Morocco and the United States.
Of the forty-seven members of the United Nations Human Rights Council, 30 supported Morocco’s candidacy, compared to that of South Africa, which received only 17 votes.
