UN mission condemns Tajoura clashes, urges ceasefire

The‌ United Nations mission expressed deep ⁢concern over the armed clashes ⁣that ⁤erupted in Tajoura and the subsequent military build-up in and around the ‍capital, Tripoli.

The mission condemned reports of ⁢civilian casualties, injuries, and displacement of many families.

The​ Mission also condemned the use of heavy weapons and ammunition by the warring factions in populated areas, calling on⁤ all parties ​to prioritize the protection of civilians at all times.

The mission welcomed the ‍de-escalation efforts and the agreement to cease hostilities, calling on all⁤ parties to fully⁢ adhere to it.

The mission emphasized that these clashes highlight the urgent need to​ unify the military and security services and⁣ establish⁣ legitimate and accountable institutions, and‍ also‌ called for expediting the launch of a comprehensive political process leading to credible​ elections.

Earlier today, sporadic clashes broke out inside the Tajoura municipality and were⁣ renewed this morning in some locations in Al-Qara Boli and Al-Quway’ah.

The ‌Tripoli branch of the Red Crescent Society announced this⁢ evening the end of‍ the state of emergency and the reopening of the roads that were closed‌ by earth mounds.
