Gaza: The United Nations reports that 17,000 children have lost their parents in four months of Israeli attacks in Gaza. The report also states that the family members of many of these children are missing or separated. Moreover, UNICEF points out that all these children who have gone through terrible situations need mental health support.

“Every child has a heartbreaking story of loss and grief to tell,” said Jonathan Crix, UNICEF’s Head of Communications for the Palestinian Territories. This number is an estimate as it is impossible to collect information under current conditions. He added that the children who were relocated to different places due to the war crisis are adjusting to the new reality.

Those who arrive at the hospital with injuries are unable to tell where their children are. Sometimes they can’t even say their own name. In such conflict situations, children who have lost their parents are usually taken in by estranged families and other families. But those in Gaza who are left without food, water or shelter are struggling to care for their own children.

Anxiety and hunger plague children in Gaza. They can’t sleep. Panicking every time he hears the sound of bombing -Jonathan Crix describes.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 27,100 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since the war began on October 7. 11,500 of them are children.
