The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reported that the number of victims and wounded among the civilian population during the war in Ukraine has reached 1581. The corresponding statement was posted on Saturday, March 12, on the website of the OHCHR.

According to him, we are talking about 579 killed (110 men, 75 women, 6 girls and 9 boys, as well as 27 children and 352 adults, whose gender is still unknown).

1002 people were injured (85 men, 68 women, 14 girls and 4 boys, as well as 36 children and 795 adults, whose gender is still unknown).

At the same time, on the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the department managed to confirm information about 632 victims and injured (130 killed, 502 wounded). In the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, this figure is 490 (105 killed, 385 injured). On the territory controlled by the separatist “republics” – 142 killed and wounded (25 and 117 respectively).

In other regions of Ukraine (Kyiv, as well as Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Sumy, Zaporozhye, Dnepropetrovsk and Zhytomyr regions), which were under government control at the time of registration of statistics, – 949 killed and wounded (449 and 500 respectively).

Management: Real numbers are much higher

Most of the casualties are related to shelling from heavy artillery and multiple launch rocket systems, as well as rocket and air strikes, OHCHR said.

At the same time, the Directorate believes that the real numbers are much higher, especially in government-controlled territory, since obtaining information from a number of places where intense fighting took place was delayed, and much of the information has not yet been confirmed.

It is the 17th day of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. So, on February 24, Russian troops launched a full-scale invasion in many regions of the neighboring state. The Armed Forces of Ukraine and the territorial defense detachments are putting up stubborn resistance. Millions of residents left their homes and left for other regions of Ukraine or abroad.
