Dr. Jaime Alberto Leal Afanador, Rector of the National Open and Distance University – UNAD, and Dr. Constanza Abadía García, Academic and Research Vice Rector of UNAD, will join the educational authorities of the Dominican Republic at the First International Congress of the ADRU 2023: “Emerging challenges of Higher Education in the Latin American context”. The event will take place from September 5 to 7, 2023 at the facilities of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University – UNPHU.

The Dominican Association of University Rectors – ADRU organizes this congress, with the fundamental objective of promoting the integration of the Higher Education, Science and Technology system in the Dominican Republic and strengthening the capacities of universities in the region.
The objectives of the congress are varied and aim to promote the quality and articulation of teaching, research and extension in Higher Education, as well as the exchange of national and international educational experiences that contribute to the strengthening of Higher Education Institutions. In addition, it seeks to show the leadership and progress of these in the Dominican Republic and reflect on the challenges facing the management of these institutions in crucial issues such as research, internationalization, quality assurance and accreditation in higher education.
The event will have the prominent participation of the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Franklin García Ferney, and the attendance of academic authorities, experts and Higher Education professionals from the entire Latin American region is expected.
