The University Council, UNAM’s highest governing body, unanimously approved the transformation of the National School of Nursing and Midwifery (ENEO). Thus it now becomes Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery. The objective is to allow their undergraduate and postgraduate programs to integrate the knowledge and skills to understand and attend to complex aspects of the national and international health context.
The change was also made to promote scientific research, together with the development and use of cutting-edge technology, to ensure reliable results in the various processes related to nursing, care, health, and the well-being of the population. mexican.
Requirements met to give rise to the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery
For the institutions to have the character and denomination of Faculty, must teach at least one doctoral programin accordance with article 8 of the General Statute of the UNAM.
This entity is currently the headquarters responsible for 16 Specialization programs in Nursing, and guest in the Master’s and Doctorate program in Medical, Dental and Health Sciences at UNAM.
It is also a participating venue in the Master’s and Doctoral Program in Nursing (PMyDE), which includes a master’s degree in nursing and a doctorate in nursing with three lines of generation and application of knowledge: Life care and health of the person; Care management and health systems; and Training of human resources in nursing.
In addition, with the national health institutes in Mexico and highly specialized federal hospitals, it coordinates and participates in the Network of Nursing Research Units, as explained by the director Rosa Amarilis Zárate Grajales in the proposal presented to be granted the name and character of Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery to the until today ENEO.
High-demand careers within the UNAM
In the project to obtain it, it is added that currently the Bachelor’s degrees in Nursing and Midwifery, and in Nursingwhose study plans were recently updated.
Both careers, listed among the 10 most in demand at the National University, are accredited by the Inter-Institutional Commission for the Training of Human Resources for Health and the Mexican Council for Nursing Accreditation.
Regarding the Unique Nursing Specialization Program, it is indicated that it has been taught since 1997 and has graduated more than 4,500 throughout the country, including from other nations in the region.
Its enrollment is more than 500 students, and as of September 2014 it is enrolled in the National Quality Postgraduate Program (PNPC) of the National Science and Technology Council (Conacyt), as a “Development Program” for train high-quality professionals.
In March of last year, the study plan for PhD in Nursingalmost 20 years after starting the training of teachers in this discipline and eight years after belonging to the PNPC of Conacyt, as “consolidated”.
