The lives of doctors go beyond the office and patient care. They can also perform other tasks within the field of health that are of great relevance. Clinical Research is a clear example and a doctor even won an important award for his work in this area.

In the first instance, to identify new treatments for patients it is necessary to carry out studies. It is the basis for breakthroughs and even the development of new drugs. Everything that is achieved today can generate great repercussions in the world of tomorrow.

With the above in mind, doctor Oscar Gerardo Arrieta Rodríguez, who is a graduate of the UNAM School of Medicine, won the “Dr. Miguel Otero” for Clinical Research awarded by the General Health Council.

“Winning a national research award is a very important stimulus and recognition not only for a person, but also for an institution, in this case the National Institute of Cancerology (INCan) and of course the Faculty of Medicine. Both are institutions to which I dedicate this achievement as well as to my family. This stimulates independent research and demonstrates the need to have lines of study focused on solving health problems that concern our country”.

The recognition was thanks to his research work on biomarkers in the treatment of lung cancer and mesotheliomalung cancer genotyping and new treatment schemes for brain metastases, lung cancer and mesothelioma.

For his part, the specialist is not a novice because To date, he has more than 330 articles published in international journals. While his work has been cited in the medical literature more than 23 thousand times, which reflects a significant number of contributions to science.

“Particularly my research is on lung cancer with respect to risk factors, the molecular analysis of our population, the search for new treatments and biomarkers that help us predict the response and improve the quality of life of patients.”
