Unconstitutional reference; Police have no evidence against Saji Cherian; Decision to close the investigation

Thiruvananthapuram: Police to close the investigation against Saji Cherian in the case related to insulting the constitution. The police are closing the investigation after the District Public Prosecutor has given legal advice that the criminal case cannot be sustained. Following this, the investigation team will issue a notice to the complainant.

The police is preparing to investigate Saji Cherian and submit a referral report to the court. This report is also in favor of Saji Cherian. According to the report, there is no evidence to clarify this even though a case has been filed under criminal charges. With this, the District Public Prosecutor has given legal advice that the criminal case will not stand.

Saji Cherian had made unconstitutional remarks on July 3 last. The CPM Area Committee organized a seminar on the Constitution in Mallapally. While speaking on this, he insulted the constitution. Saji Cherian’s remark was that the things written in the constitution are meant to rob the people, and the British said and wrote the constitution as well. He had resigned as minister after the incident became controversial.
