The under-21 national team arrived in Georgia this Friday, where it will compete in the European category, and trained, under the baton of Rui Jorge, in Tbilisi, although still with a loss for the national team.

With 22 players at his disposal, the only exception was Fábio Vieira. As has been the case in recent days, the Arsenal midfielder did limited work in the gym and did not join his colleagues in the work session held later this afternoon, on the secondary field of the Meshki Stadium, stage of the second and third games of the Group Stage for the Quinas Team.

Before training, it was the turn of Samuel Soares, Benfica’s goalkeeper, to serve as the group’s spokesperson: «The spirit is very good. I have been in this space for a year and, since I arrived, I have felt a group that is very close and everyone is available to each other. We will attack with everything and do our best to represent the country. We feel like candidates to win the European Championship. We are not favourites, but we are candidates. A selection like Portugal must always be a candidate. The undefeated performance in qualifying gives us confidence, but we won’t focus on what’s behind us. It was good, but if we’re stuck with that, it won’t go well.”

«There is a very good relationship. Whatever the coach chooses to play, we know that the others will be there for us and with the concern that we are doing our best to help the team», he concluded, focusing on the fight for the title, with Francisco Meixedo and Celton Biai, on goal.

Portugal is included in group A of the 2023 European Under-21 Championship, along with hosts Georgia, the Netherlands and Belgium. The first game is scheduled for June 21st.
