Stereotypes of intellectual groups are a recurring theme in fashion. Especially these days, nerdy characters seem to be on the minds of many designers again. For Hedi Slimane, who particularly likes to be inspired by young people, these can only be students.

And because the world’s printed knowledge is mainly found in the large, magnificent libraries, the acting Celine creative director is presenting his summer collection for 2024 in the French National Library in Paris.

What’s notable is that Slimane once again only released a video – and didn’t host a live fashion show. In the most recent clip, he has his models cross a large historical reading room; in looks between preppy chic, nerd core and evening wear.

In black lace-up boots with white socks, the students (who are probably actually studying in real life) hurry across the herringbone parquet floor, past reading tables, under the towering bookshelves of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France Richelieu. A beautiful sight. You can also hear the extended mix of “Too Much Love” by LCD Soundsystem – and you wonder why the world outside is actually so ugly.

With his new collection, which Hedi Slimane called “Tomboy”, education is presented to us as a hip hobby. In times like these, one can only hope that this trend also catches on outside of fashion.
