Al-Marsad newspaper: Cardiology and electrocardiology consultant, Dr. Wael Al-Qarawi, revealed the groups most at risk of developing atrial fibrillation, and methods of treating it.
During his appearance on the Al-Youm program, he said that the causes of atrial fibrillation are aging, high blood pressure and diabetes, obesity, heart valve disease, thyroid problems, and sleep apnea.
Al-Qarawi added that atrial fibrillation can be treated by taking blood-thinning medications to prevent clots, or by catheterization or cauterization of the focus from which the fibrillation emerges.
