Unemployment: the number of job seekers is stabilizing

After several months of marked decline, the figures are stabilizing. The number of jobseekers registered in category A (without activity) in mainland France stood at 2,799,000 (-0.1%) in the second quarter of 2023, compared to a decrease of 1.3% over the first three months of the year. Barely 1,900 workers have found a job, according to figures from the Ministry of Labour published this Wednesday, July 26. The decline is 5% over one year.

In detail, it increased by 0.2% for men (-5.1% over one year) and fell by 0.4% for women. It rose by 0.4% for those under 25 (+ 2.1% over one year) and by 0.6% for those aged 25 to 49 (-5.3% compared to 2022). Seniors (50 years and over), they are doing better with 1.7% less registered, a drop of 7.5% over one year.

5,067,700 people registered with Pôle emploi

The number of people exercising a short reduced activity (category B) decreased by 2.1%, and by 0.2% for people in “long reduced activity” (category C). Here again, overall, it increased by 0.2% for young people (+0.8% over one year), but decreased by 0.7% among seniors.

In total, the number of people registered with Pôle emploi stands at 5,067,700, 0.4% less in this quarter and 1.9% compared to the same period in 2022.

The number of job seekers in category A decreased or stabilized in five regions (1.9% in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, 1.5% in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, 1.1% in Occitanie, 0.7% in Pays de la Loire and 0.3% Corsica). Finally, eleven regions saw the figures for categories A, B and C down and two up: between -1% in Pays de la Loire and Centre-Val de Loire, + 1.1% in Corsica.
