JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men’s tennis team continued its dominant form Sunday, sweeping Coastal Carolina 4-0 at the UNF Tennis Complex. The victory extends the Ospreys’ winning streak to seven consecutive matches and keeps them undefeated at home this season, with a perfect 7-0 record at the UNF Tennis Complex.
The match showcased a strong performance from both the doubles and singles lineups, with UNF demonstrating aggressive play throughout. This win for North Florida builds on a season of improvements to the UNF Tennis Complex, which underwent renovations in 2024, including resurfacing of all 10 courts and replacement of fencing around the lower four courts, according to the University of North Florida Athletics website. The facility, originally built in 1986, now boasts LED broadcast-level lighting, individual scoreboards on each court, and a permanent sound system.
Doubles Dominance Sets the Tone
The Ospreys quickly established control, securing the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Graduate students Breno Marques and Andreas Scott led the charge, defeating Jack Dixon and Eric Tripathi of Coastal Carolina 6-2 on the top court. Sophomore duo Joao Portugal and Jean Deloziere clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Juan Cruz Collardin and Rivers Cahill on court three. Youssef Labbene and Aron Major were leading 5-4 when the doubles point was secured.
Singles Success Seals the Victory
North Florida carried their momentum into singles play, winning first sets on five of the six courts. Sophomore Youssef Labbene delivered a commanding performance on court one, defeating Jack Dixon in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Marques followed suit with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Juan Cruz Collardin on court two, extending the Ospreys’ lead to 2-0.
The match-clinching point came from freshman Aron Major, who remained undefeated in singles play with a 7-0 record. Major secured a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Curzio Manucci on court six, sealing the 4-0 sweep for North Florida. Andreas Scott was leading 2-6, 6-3, 4-0 when the match was clinched.
