Unfazed by the drama about the European commissioner, they gave the conservatives a bold proposal: let’s choose from these women

A. Armonaitė expressed her thoughts on Facebook on Tuesday.

“It’s time to say out loud that Lithuania has found itself in a crisis in the choice of a European commissioner due to hard-to-understand reasons, and the chance to have a good portfolio is slipping from our hands. We are stuck in palace intrigues and do not discuss at all what we would like to achieve in Europe. What is Lithuania’s vision for Europe?

Economic transformation, energy independence, investments in the defense industry, EU expansion and overall greater European leadership in the world are what should concern us first.

If a political choice has become impossible for at least a few reasons, the Freedom Party suggests looking for candidacy to the EC not only among politicians, but also among public leaders. More specifically, women leaders. Three consecutive EC members from Lithuania were men, maybe it’s time to choose a woman?”, asked A. Armonaitė.

According to the leader of the “liberal” group, many people in Lithuania did not even notice how a new generation of female leaders, who have already distinguished themselves in academic activities and business, has strengthened.

“Of course, they should be invited, cajoled and convinced, but if at least one of them agrees, not only Lithuania, but also Europe will be successful. In addition, there are many examples of a successful commissioner, when a person from, for example, business was delegated to the EC.

Here are 10 strong women that society sees as leaders of today and tomorrow. For example, TSPMI manager Margarita Šešelgytė, prominent lawyer Dovilė Burgienė, NASDAQ manager Arminta Saladžienė, researcher Urtė Neniškytė, VINTED founder Milda Mitkutė, EU ambassador to the USA Jovita Neliupšienė, high-level company manager Kristina Meidė, banking sector professional Dovilė Grigienė, TELIA head Giedrė Kaminskaitė- Salters, and Dalia Grybauskaitė – we all know each other. The list is certainly not exhaustive.

It would be a breath of fresh air, which both Lithuania and Europe need. The Board of the Freedom Party invites you to convene a coalition council and resolve the issue of the appointment of the European Commissioner in the summer, without waiting for autumn,” wrote A. Armonaitė.

On his part, Jurgis Razma, who heads the Conservatives of the Seimas for the time being, emphasized that the process of appointing a European Commissioner is complicated by certain ambitions of President Gitanas Nausėda.

According to him, this should also be understood by the small coalition partners who publicly criticize the still-unpresented candidate for the European Commission (EC).

“I would like the coalition partners to better understand how complicated it is this time to nominate a candidate due to the president’s certain ambitions and that this is not such a standard situation where you discuss the candidate in the coalition, present it to the president and that’s it – the train is moving,” J. Razma told LRT radio. .

V. Čmilytė-Nielsen responded

Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen said on Tuesday that the question of the European Commissioner has become an object of ridicule. According to the politician, the coalition’s conservative partners should have made decisions about Lithuania’s representative in the European Commission (EC) much earlier.

“That is the prerogative of the Conservatives and there are limits to how far we, as junior partners, can raise that issue. We are waiting to see what they will propose and then we will consider it in a coalition format.

From my point of view, we are late, we could make a clearer and faster decision”, said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen to journalists in the Seimas.

The chairwoman of the Liberal Movement considered that the Freedom Party previously linked the question of the European Commissioner only to the Civil Union Law.

“Until now, the Freedom Party has associated the European Commissioner only with issues that are important to them. You can come up with all kinds of suggestions, but frankly, this question has become a laughing stock. That’s how I assess it,” emphasized V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.
