Unfolding of a stretch of track in Zugastieta to double the frequencies between Guernica and Bilbao

Euskal Trenbide Sarea has put out to tender the construction project for the doubling of a section of track in Zugastieta, Múgica municipal area, of the Amorebieta-Bermeo line. The project has a budget of 270,000 euros and an execution period of twelve months for the writing of the study.

The unfolding in Zugastieta will be carried out in the area of ​​the exit of the Autzagane tunnel to the Zugastieta station, in a section of about 2,000 meters in length. This action must allow trains to cross between the Amorebieta halt and the Zugastieta station. With this action, the aim is to be able to double the frequencies of the services from Guernica to Bilbao at rush hour, so that they go from every half hour to every 15 minutes.

The study must include, among other aspects, the definition of the provisional deviations of the railway necessary to maintain the service during the execution of the works. Likewise, the project will contemplate the suppression of the Sitxes and Presoste level crossings, where there is a sawmill, located on the trace.

Along these lines, the construction of a track for the maintenance of railway material of some seventy meters in length is planned, and an associated work area for loading and unloading that allows the collection of material. All these actions will be designed with maximum respect for the area’s environmental conditions and its proper integration into the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve.
