After the first race in the IQFOIL class, Rytis Jasiūnas takes 16th place among 24 competitors at the Paris Olympic Games.

“Waiting is normal and not too difficult to deal with. It’s a lot of fun to go out and show that we can do more than just sit on the shore.

I had a very good start in the first swim, but the Brazilian and the Dutchman had a false start and the Brazilian was right next to me. I would say this psychologically harmed my second swim, because when there was a restart, I started to think that I took too many risks the first time and then I started more safely.

Unfortunately, it was too safe and the Dane overtaking me cut the wind for me, which made sailing much more difficult. I arrived at the first mark in a rather poor position. Then it was important not to try to go completely va bank, but just to work systematically and fight back meter by meter, which I succeeded in doing.

The result is not great, but not bad either. I would call it average. It is important that I did not get involved in any false starts, I did not collide with anyone, I did not receive any protests. I am perfectly ready to continue the race on other days”, commented the Lithuanian on his performance.

As announced by the Lithuanian Sailing Union, the start of the second race was given, but was interrupted during the course.

Even after some time on the water, the conditions did not improve for the race, so no more races took place today.

“The start was given in the second race. At the bottom mark, I was in 12-13th place, but later the wind completely disappeared, we all stopped and that race was cancelled,” said R. Jasiūnas.

Tuesday’s forecast looks much more optimistic – the average wind should be around 11-12 knots.
