Islamabad: Pakistan, which has a nefarious intention of separating Kashmir from India, is now completely alone in the world. Pakistan has been talking about resolving the Kashmir dispute on the basis of the United Nations resolution, but no country even mentioned Kashmir in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting. Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US, Hussain Haqqani, said on this issue that Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will be the only person to raise the Kashmir issue in the United Nations General Assembly. The biggest blow to Pakistan has been given by its friend Türkiye.
Erdogan did not mention Kashmir
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has been raising the Kashmir issue for the past several years, did not mention it during his address to the United Nations General Assembly this time. Pakistan is stunned by this move. Former Pakistani diplomat Hussain Haqqani wrote on the social media platform X, ‘For many years, Pakistanis have been talking about resolving the ‘Kashmir dispute’ on the basis of UN resolutions. If none of the speakers among the 193 members in the UNGA except the Prime Minister of Pakistan mentioned Kashmir, how real is Pakistan’s sentiment?’
Historically, Erdogan has been a vocal supporter of Kashmir at the United Nations. In his 2020 speech, he criticised the Indian government’s decision to revoke Article 370 and claimed that it had worsened the situation. India had opposed it and called it a violation of its sovereignty. However, Erdogan’s raising the Kashmir issue this time has created a sweet spot for New Delhi.
Shahbaz Sharif met Erdogan
Shahbaz Sharif and Recep Tayyip Erdogan met during the 79th session of the General Assembly in New York amid Turkey’s latest move on Kashmir. According to the Pakistan Foreign Ministry, the two leaders called for an ‘immediate ceasefire in Gaza’ and an end to the conflict. They discussed the ongoing genocide and the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. Although Erdogan did not mention Kashmir at the United Nations, Pakistan praised Erdogan in its statement. It said that ‘the Prime Minister appreciated Turkey’s steadfast and continued support for the oppressed people of Kashmir.’
