The president of the Unicaja Banking Foundation, José M. Domínguez, and the president of the Malaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, have signed this agreement, which aims to promote initiatives that address the climate emergency needs of the province and the creation of synergies between social entities, companies and city councils to solve climate challenges.

Also present at the signing ceremony were the general director of the Unicaja Banking Foundation, Sergio Corral, and the vice presidents of the Malaga Provincial Council, Cristóbal Ortega, Manuel Marmolejo, Antonia Ledesma and Manuel López.

The ‘Microclimas’ program aims to develop projects that propose innovative solutions to the challenges of the climate emergency in terms of mobility, energy, water, waste, territorial planning, urban planning and construction, natural CO2 sinks, eco-innovation, actions of sensitization and citizen awareness of the fight against climate changeand consulting actions and studies and research on climate change with an impact on the province.

Through the alliance between the Unicaja Banking Foundation and the Malaga Provincial Council, those initiatives that have a great impact on the municipalities most affected by climate change, that integrate the gender perspective and that have a maximum execution period of one year will be supported. . A mixed commission made up of representatives of both institutions will be created to study and evaluate the projects.

This initiative is aligned with the strategy to combat climate change ‘Málaga Viva’ developed by the Provincial Council, based on which an action plan is prepared with various measures around the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS).

The 2023 Agenda also has an essential role in the new three-year Strategic Plan of the Unicaja Banking Foundation, which has as one of its main lines of action the strengthening of ESG criteria, with the preservation of the environment being one of the institution’s priorities. in the development of its basic social work.
