A group of unidentified masked young men broke into the building of the human rights center “Memorial” in Moscow, the organization said on Thursday, October 14. The incident took place during the screening of the historical drama “Gareth Jones” by Polish director Agnieszka Holland.

As “Novaya Gazeta” writes with reference to the actor Yevgeny Redko, unknown persons climbed onto the stage and began to shout in chorus “Shame” and “Down with fascism”. According to Redko, the security forces took three people away after they were detained by the Memorial employees themselves.

There are no details about the intruders and the reasons for their action yet. According to the human rights center, after the attack, the Memorial office was cordoned off by the police. No one is allowed in or out of the building.

Since 2014, the Memorial Human Rights Center has been on the register of “foreign agents” in Russia. On October 1, the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow fined the organization 300 thousand rubles. The court found her guilty of producing and distributing materials without marking her as a “foreign agent”.
