To govern this special moment, which is both solemn and celebratory, the table was composed of the following authorities: the Magnificent Rector of Unilab, Roque Albuquerque; the Vice-Rector, Cláudia Carioca; the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Thiago Moura; the Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Ciro de Miranda; the Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Bruno Machado; the Vice-Coordinator of the Degree in Biological Sciences, Márcia Barbosa; the Coordinator of the Bachelor of Nursing, Hilana Dayana; the representative of the coordination of the Bachelor’s Degree in Energy Engineering, Vandilberto Pereira; the Coordinator of the Physics Degree, Levi Rodrigues; the Coordinator of the Degree in History, Lourenço Cardoso; the Coordinator of the Bachelor of Humanities, Leandro Lopes; the Coordinator of the Degree in Literature – English Language, Luiz Teixeira; the Coordinator of the Degree in Literature – Portuguese Language – Juliana Gonçalves; the acting Coordinator of the Degree in Mathematics – Sinara Mota; the Coordinator of the Degree in Pedagogy, Evaldo Ribeiro; the Coordinator of the Chemistry Degree, Wirley Ribeiro; the Coordinator of the Degree in Sociology, Joana Rower.

Magnificent Dean of Unilab, Roque Albuquerque: “There are wisdom and intelligence, which are two different things. I know a lot of intelligent people who have everything but wisdom.”

In his speech, the dean of Unilab, Roque Albuquerque, congratulated the graduates, praised their extraordinary achievements and invited them to think about the important difference between intelligence and wisdom, without ever losing sight of authenticity. “Miracles happen to extraordinary people. It is happening today here and now with this coronation. You have walked difficult paths, full of ups and downs, but in an extraordinary way. You managed to achieve your first big goal. Because you, I want to address only you (trainee), are extraordinary. And what makes a person extraordinary? How can I be extraordinary? This has several meanings. Ordinary also has its connotations. But, I want to address you, who are unique, you who are unique. The first thing I want to point out today in my speech is that anyone who is extraordinary is unique. You need to understand that you need to be authentic. Always be authentic. This is very important”, highlighted the rector, continuing:

“There are wisdom and intelligence which are two different things. I know a lot of smart people who have everything but wisdom. And wisdom has three dimensions and is typical of extraordinary people, who learned that one thing is knowing, the other thing is applying knowledge. The application of what I know carries these three dimensions. Either they are all three together, or it is certainly difficult to define and call this wisdom. The first thing is what I will call practical wisdom. The second I will call ethical wisdom. How do I conduct myself in relationships? What is the character I want to forge? How do I act in my relationships? Is it ethical or not? And the third wisdom is relational.”

The students who were entitled to the OPTICA Award.

Shortly after the performance of the anthems of the countries that make up the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), namely: Brazil, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Cape Verde, East Timor and São Tomé and Príncipe, one of the highlights took place of the ceremony, which was the presentation of the OPTICA Award, which is an initiative of the UNILAB STUDENT CHAPTER project, formed by professors and students from Unilab, which had its first edition in August last year.

This important award aims to promote academic excellence and encourage student participation in research and extension projects. Its creation was even motivated by the university’s emphasis on promoting teaching, research and extension as fundamental activities, with one of the main objectives being to awaken interest and motivate the academic community in the importance of student involvement in these three essential pillars. Thus, the award seeks to honor those students who, throughout their academic career, managed to successfully engage in these activities, contributing to the achievement of Unilab’s objectives.

In this edition, the students who were entitled to the OPTICA Award were: Azélia Souto, from the Institute of Applied Social Sciences; Rodrik Gomes, from the Humanities Institute; Junayara Lima, from the Institute of Languages and Literatures; Mateus Landa, from the Institute of Exact and Natural Sciences; Maria Vitória Guerra, from the Rural Development Institute; Miguel Vicente, from the Institute of Health Sciences and Manuel Mfinda, who won the outstanding award as an international student.

Professor Sabi Yari: “We cannot fail to express our thanks and congratulations to all the participants (of the OPTICA Award)”.

For professor Sabi Yari Moïse, coordinator of the OPTICA Prize, which recorded a 100% increase in entries in this edition compared to last year, in addition to counting on the participation of students from Ceará and Bahia from all Institutes, as important as praising the recipients is recognizing this collective participation which, each year, has been increasing and giving greater credibility and legitimacy to the award. “ We cannot fail to express our gratitude and congratulations to all participants, said Yari, and then conclude with a call: “We warmly invite future graduates of the 2023.2 semester to apply en masse, with special emphasis on graduates of the courses of Engineering and the nationalities of Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste. We thank everyone for their participation and commitment.”

Moments of joy and emotion during the ceremony

Another moment of great emotion in this type of ceremony is, without a doubt, the time for the oratory by the graduates. The well-measured, or calculatedly selected, words seek to summarize in a few lines, within the limits of one page, all the effort undertaken to achieve graduation, without leaving aside the bit of hope for tomorrow and for a fairer and more just society. fraternal. “Today is a day that will forever be engraved in our hearts. The journey we started together a few years ago has come to an end, and it is impossible not to feel a mix of emotions at this moment”, confessed in her opening words, Karine Rocha, who was chosen as speaker at the Institute of Exact and Natural Sciences (ICEN) .

“As we prepare to enter the outside world, I am confident that we will all make a difference. No matter which path each one chooses to follow, remember that we are capable of achieving great things, because we are living proof that we can win with determination and hard work”, concluded Rocha.

And, of course, the recognition of the student body that one cannot travel the long and difficult journey to graduation alone. From this understanding, vivid words of gratitude emerge:

“Unilab and all the professionals who make this beautiful institution what it is, our gratitude! We recognize the effort and dedication of each employee! To the professionals who make up our institute, to the current and past directors, coordinators, secretaries and teachers, gratitude! The latter, the teachers, have a special place in our hearts, each teacher who was willing to make an effort and do their best to illuminate us with the light of knowledge during this journey, making us go from students to finally, professionals. ! Gratitude! With each encouragement from these professionals, with each call for attention, as a clearer demonstration that they care about us, with each opportunity for growth through study, research and extension groups. Our interactions go far beyond the classroom or research groups, extending into life, often becoming friends, friends that we will keep for the rest of our lives! Gratitude, for each student’s choice to persevere”, thanked Allef Matheus, future agronomist, who was chosen as speaker at the Rural Development Institute (IDR).
