A study by the Union Ministry of Education revealed that among the country’s top 100 higher education institutes, there is an excess of faculty with Ph.D., while the number is less in other higher education institutes.

The Union Ministry of Education is publishing a national ranking list of Higher Education Institutions with a view to creating healthy competition among Higher Education Institutions in the country and developing them as world-class Higher Education Institutions. Similarly, the ranking bar for the current year was released on Monday.

A study by the Union Ministry of Education for this ranking revealed that higher educational institutes that have secured the top 100 positions in this ranking list have more graduate faculty strength, while other higher education institutes have less. The paper further states:

It was found that there was a difference in the strength of doctoral faculty between institutions in the top 100 and other institutions in the ranking.

In the list, 77.79 percent of the top 100 educational institutes under the category of higher education institutions have doctorate degrees. That means out of total 64,484 female teachers, 50,160 have got PhD.

Out of total 1,88,403 teachers in other higher education institutions, only 96,758, i.e. 51.36 percent, are doctorate teachers. 73.60 percent of the top 100 educational institutions under the university category and 64.29 percent of other educational institutions have professional teachers. 81.20 percent of the top 100 educational institutes in the engineering colleges category have doctorate teachers and 34.94 percent of other educational institutions have doctorate teachers. 61.06 per cent of the top 100 colleges under Arts-Science colleges category and 44.63 per cent of other colleges have PhD teachers.

Tremendous growth in engineering education:

It has been revealed through the thesis that engineering education has grown tremendously in the country in the last 20 years.

Thousands of government and private engineering colleges have been started in the last 20 years. However, only 44.51 percent of the professors working in engineering colleges across the country have completed their PhD. 55 percent are post graduate. Due to this, the quality of education and the employment of the graduates have been a major challenge, according to the report.
