Veypur: Near Veypur, commotion broke out as villagers besieged the union office with empty jugs demanding drinking water.

Veypur is the next most likely village with more than a thousand people living there.

Near the Perumal Temple here, about 20 years ago, a borewell was constructed and drinking water was supplied to the villagers through a mini tank.

In this case, last 7 months ago the drinking water supply was stopped due to the failure of the borewell.

Following this, the panchayat administration decided to construct a new borewell at the same place. Some people protested against the construction of a borewell there and engaged in the work of constructing the surrounding wall of the temple.

As a result, the construction of a new borewell was shelved. There was a shortage of drinking water in the village.

More than 50 enraged villagers besieged the Nallur union office yesterday at 12:00 noon with empty pots.

Nallur PTO, Jayakumari assured the protestors that a new borewell would be constructed at the same location as per the wishes of the villagers. Subsequently, the protest was called off at 12:45 pm.
