Union Berlin coach Urs Fischer sees his experienced newcomers as having a duty after five defeats in a row.
“It’s not that easy for the boys. Two leading players are missing in Knoche and Khedira,” said the Swiss before Köpenicker’s first Champions League home game in the Berlin Olympic Stadium (6.45 p.m./DAZN) against SC Braga. Defense chief Robin Knoche and midfield organizer Rani Khedira are also missing against the Portuguese.
It is certainly a disadvantage that Robin Gosens, Kevin Volland and Leonardo Bonucci, who are experienced in the premier class, only joined the team late. “The boys are doing their best. But they too: maybe coach the boys a little more, take a little more responsibility, even if the situation is not that easy,” said the 57-year-old. “I have the feeling that they try tirelessly.
