The Moroccan Labor Union and the Democratic Confederation of Labor unions decided to escalate their protests against the draft law related to the creation of multi-service regional companies, which seeks to “make water a commodity like all other commodities.”

And they announced in a joint statement, “The launch of a national warning strike for a period of 3 days, which extends from tomorrow, Monday, until next Wednesday.

In addition to organizing a protest stand in front of the parliament headquarters the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, starting at twelve o’clock in the afternoon, in conjunction with the Council of Advisors holding a legislative plenary session to approve the draft law, which “is nothing but a recommendation from the International Monetary Fund and part of the privatization process.”

He believes that the events of these companies “dwarf the National Office for Drinking Water and Electricity and amputate a large part of its roles at a time when it showed, during a long experience, that it is able to raise challenges.”

He called on the rest of the sectoral unions to “renounce division and field coordination” to stand up to the draft law, and called on the employees of the office to engage in a struggle program represented in launching strikes and protest vigils to preserve the National Water Office as a public institution and its public and social services as a service to citizens.

The communication criticized the acceleration of the passage of the bill in the legislative institution without any involvement with the actors in the sector.

The National University for Drinking Water, which is the most representative union in the sector, previously launched a strike in mid-March to protest against “closing the door to dialogue by the public administration.”

This union, which is affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union, also carried out a “national warning strike and a sit-in in front of the office’s general administration headquarters in Rabat at the end of last February.”
