Greece, USA, England, France and Switzerland won the first round of the United Cup tennis tournament in Australia on Thursday.
Greece – Bulgaria (2-0): Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Grigor Dimitrov 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7/4) in the women’s singles. In women’s singles, Thespina Babamichael defeated Isabella Sinikova 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
USA – Czech Republic (2-0): Taylor Fritz defeated Jiri Lehka 6-3, 6-4 in the men’s singles, while Madison Keys defeated Marie Bouskova 6-4, 6-3 in the women’s singles.
Italy – Brazil (1-1): Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti beat Brazil’s Filipe Meligeni Alves 6-3, 6-4, while Italy’s Martina Trevisan lost 2-6, 0-6 to Brazil’s Beatriz Hattat Maia.
France – Argentina (2-0): In the women’s category, Alice Cornet defeated Maria Karle 6-2, 6-1, and in the men’s category, Adar Rindnech defeated Francisco Cerundolo 6-4, 6-2.
England – Australia (2-0): Australia’s Alex De Minar lost to England’s Cameron Norrie in no sets 3-6, 3-6, while Joe Hives lost to Katie Swann 4-6, 3-6.
SWITZERLAND – KAZAKHSTAN (2-0): In the women’s section, Belinda Bencic beat Yulia Putintseva 7-6 (7/0), 6-3, while Marc-André Haszl beat Timofe Scato 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
