Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died. He was 99 years old.
Buckingham Palace confirmed his death in an official statement released Friday morning local time. “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the official statement read. “His Royal Highness died peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

There will be eight days of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II for the death of her “beloved” consort, Prince Philip. And the funeral should take place at st George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The British press writes it while waiting for Buckingham Palace to give official information.

All British monarchs and their spouses are buried at Westminster Abbey and St George’s Chapel. A more private burial should be planned for Philip.

Filippo, the marriage with Elizabeth and the last months
Philip married the queen in 1947, and their marriage, which lasted 70 years, was the longest than any other British monarch. The duke will be remembered as much for his sharp wit – and his gaffes – as for his loyalty to the crown. He has spent most of his last few years out of the spotlight, mostly staying at the Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk after retiring from royal duties in 2017 at the age of 96. In early 2019, Filippo escaped a serious injury following a car accident outside the estate where he resided. Just before Christmas, the elderly duke had been hospitalized in a London hospital as a precautionary measure against the Coronavirus infection.
Filippo had also been hospitalized in mid-February due to an infection and had also undergone a heart operation. Discharged on March 16, he had returned to windsor castle, where he has spent most of his time in the last year, in isolation, due to the coronavirus epidemic.
